Congrats to the Winners…More to Come!

Cocktail partyThe winners of the Evernight Book Boyfriend Blog Hop and the Hot n Sprung Blog Hop have been notified. I hope you all enjoy!

There is one more event going on until midnight tonight. I’m giving away a $5.00 electronic Amazon Card and a pdf of In the Moment at Romance Novels in Color.

And for Mother’s Day, both Cheers and Deja Vu are free this weekend at All Romance so why not get both!

Cheers (1)Cheers: As a successful Sales and Catering Manager for the posh Hayden Court Hotel located in New Orleans’ famed French Quarter, Darcey St. Claire is absolutely thrilled to be working on New Year’s Eve. The commission and bonus, she’ll receive from the two day Guidry Construction event will not only fund her spring trip to New York City, but buy a cute pair of shoes for the plane ride!

Her enthusiasm quickly turns to barely disguised irritation when Vincent Guidry arrives hours early for his scheduled check-in, demanding access to his suite. After he slashes the budget for the event, not even the crystal blue eyes of the former quarterback can quell the anger surging in her chest.

That is until he walks into the Chat Noir where she is trying to regroup after her irksome day.

In the private enclave known as the Cristal Room, Vincent willingly lights up Darcey’s New Year’s Eve and may have lost his heart in the process to the young woman who isn’t looking for anything serious.
Please be aware, this is a short story and contains language some readers may find offensive.

DEJAVUFinalDeja VuOne week has passed since Darcey St. Claire, a sales manager for a posh French Quarter hotel, broke the cardinal rule of sales – you don’t sleep with your client. Against her better judgement, she agrees to an even more egregious breach of her hotel contract.

A real date with the handsome former quarterback to take place over the course of a weekend. For both she and Vincent, it wasn’t supposed to be anymore than that.

But things changed…

Beginning a campaign to become the governor of Louisiana, Vincent Guidry’s plans are halted when his feelings for Darcey become more than sexual and the young woman cuts all ties with him. Her appearance in his office, seven weeks after their break-up, begins a backward journey to right the wrongs of their separate pasts.

Is a shared forever possible?

Hot N Sprung Blog Hop – Whew!

HotNSprung2-225x300 (1)

Sex on the Beach? You know that fruity cocktail of vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice and a bunch of other things that could have you losing your inhibitions after one or two?

For me, that’s what a summer read by the pool should be – fun, flirty and it should leave you with a naughty thought or two.

Amber Meets Her Cowboy3I haven’t published a lot but if I had to pick one of my stories for a pool time read, it would be In the Moment. The novella begins on a hot day in April with the hero, Kevin Miller, stuck in a traffic jam on his way to a Friday late afternoon meeting. He’s fuming. But by the end of that meeting, he’s hot for an entirely different reason.

In this short, you’ll find a strong hero with a soft side and an equally strong heroine with not much of a soft side. As one reader commented, “It was sexy, sweet charming and spicy to boot!”

TheBeginningofForeverSo if you’re headed down to the pool, why not take Amber and Kevin with you? Three lucky commenters will receive a complimentary copy of In the Moment. (Aww, I’ve already read that one. Then just ask for the follow-up novel, The Beginning of Forever.) Leave a comment, any ol’ thing you’d like to say with your email address for a chance to win.

And don’t forget to keep hopping, the hop continues with

Evernight Book Boyfriend – Shane Fowler

The Book Boyfriend Blog Hop is back and better than ever!

The authors of Evernight have a brand new team of swoon-worthy book boyfriend candidates. A sexy assortment of cowboys, Doms, detectives, millionaires, royalty, vampires, soldiers, and shifters are just a click away.

Get ready to find your next book boyfriend…

Male model smileI’m excited to introduce you to Shane Fowler of One Stormy Night and one of the many book boyfriends you’re going to meet over the next few days.

Shane is a little different than most. Not a cowboy, not a millionaire. He’s the boy you wished lived next door – handsome, funny, smart and very sweet. Well, not so sweet according to one ex-girlfriend. But that’s not the point. When you’re together he’ll flash that megawatt smile and have you floating.

That’s what he does for the heroine of One Stormy Night, Alexis Joplin, and they’re just friends…or so they say.

Let’s take a peek at what happens one evening while the two are watching the rain from the front porch of a hundred-year old inn:

OSNFrom One Stormy Night

“Alexis, you are a beautiful woman.”

“Thank you,” she mouthed.

The gentle breath she blew across his cheek tingled. The subsequent pucker of her lips against his skin burned. Desire to have her flamed in his groin, and not even the furious splatter of rain down his back doused it.

“You’re smart and funny and caring. A woman any man would want to wake up next to,” he whispered. Shane stopped fighting the urge.

He kissed her.

Shane savored the lingering tartness of the wine as he kissed her lips. Bursts of simmering raspberries and cherries tingled over his mouth, adding to the fire growing deep within him.

For a few seconds after slipping his tongue inside her mouth, he thought he’d found relief from the gnawing ache.

Then she kissed him back, sweeping her tongue over and under his in slow, tantalizing circles. How many nights have I dreamed about kissing her like this?

“Damn.” He snapped his head back, excited by the tickle of the murmuring sounds coming from deep in her throat, and lifted Alexis into his lap.

The swing creaked from the sudden movement, but he wasn’t going to let go just yet.

He covered her mouth with his and caressed her breast. The lush mound was as firm, yet yielding to the squeeze of his hand, as he’d always imagined.

But he needed more than the feel of fabric to satisfy the awful thump between his legs. He slid his fingers under the dress’s crisscrossed neckline until he reached her nipple. Her tender skin shrunk into a point, making it easier to pluck while his tongue danced over hers.

“Shane.” Alexis moaned out his name.

He kissed down her the smooth skin of her neck, now wet from the rain splattering over them.

“Yes,” she whispered into his ear.

I’m not letting her go now. He licked closer to the spot where his fingers played.

Clunk. Clunk.

“Oh, shit.” Alexis tore away from him, staggering to her feet as the swing plummeted.

The Color of Love Blog Hop – 2013

First of all a big thank you to Empi Baryeh for organizing this event! What a wonderful way for current readers of IR/MC romances to find new writers and romance readers to perhaps discover a new sub-genre.

For me I discovered IR/MC romance about three years ago. And I have to tell you it has changed my life.

You see, from my early teens to college I read romances like they were the newspapers. In college, I put them to the side. The relationships didn’t fit the life I led.

As one of only 100 African Americans in my freshman class at Tulane University in New Orleans, the majority of the men I dated were not African American. The man I eventually married is Caucasian. So why read about the alabaster blonde getting the pretty blonde when sometimes he preferred the girl with dark skin?

Then I came upon this short story by Tressie Lockwood, A Friend and A Lover. My first thought was ~ you can write a love story like this? An African American heroine and a Caucasian hero. Really?

Yes, really.

My fascination with the genre has boiled over to actually writing my own romantic tales of Love that cross racial boundaries as described by the 2010 Census Bureau (If you didn’t know some people who were once White are now Asian, but let’s keep this on track).

For your electronic viewing pleasure, I am giving away either one electronic copy of The Beginning of Forever or One Stormy Night to three winners (see the blurbs below).

The Beginning of Forever (a near novel published by Amira Press)

TheBeginningofForeverAmber Grayson, a conservative executive, found true love with fiancé, Kevin Miller. He infused her life with a sense of adventure and challenged her thoughts about appropriate bedroom behavior. After such a steamy affair, Amber was expecting nothing less during their engagement.

Even with the rushed timetable for the wedding combined with the stress of merging their households and finances, Amber is excited to begin a family with the man of her dreams. However, the beginning of forever is more difficult than either of them thought.

Locked in a battle of wills, Amber and Kevin find their commitment to each other and their future tested. Is this the beginning of their lives together or the end?

OSNOne Stormy Night (a sexy short story published by Evernight Publishing)

Alexis Joplin, popular host of the travel show, Overnight Stays, is embarking on her final scouting expedition with her partner and best friend, Shane Fowler. Over the course of the last two years, the duo has grown closer not only at work, but outside of the job. While their friends and co-workers may whisper that something more than friendship is the source of their mutual admiration, they deny it even as their personal feelings are reaching a critical apex.

Shrouded in the dark beauty of a hundred year old inn, while lightning flashes and thunder rumbles, neither Alexis nor Shane can hold on to the pretense any longer. They give in to one night of passion with the promise that in the morning, they’ll awake as friends.

But is it a promise they both can keep?

All you have to do is answer the following question in the comments:

What draws you as a reader to the IR/MC genre?

Hump Day Hook – Christmas 2014

It’s time for the Hump Day Hook! A group of authors sharing a small bit of their WIPs or already released works. Click the icon to discover your next great read!

This RAW snippet comes from a WIP novella, I hope to complete by Christmas submission time in 2014 so by the end of June or late July 2014….August 2014 if I limit my publishing options. In this exchange, Ada Haynes is checking into a bed and breakfast in her ex-husband’s home town of Willow Springs, GA during the Christmas holiday.

photo_66781_20111209“Well, I used to visit this area with my ex-husband and we always ate there.”

At the word, husband, Mr. Ballard cocked his head to the side at a sharp angle that swung his hair into his suddenly nquisitive eyes. “Is that right?”

Willow Spring was a small town tucked high in the mountains of Georgia. A local husband most likely meant that she’d been married into one of the few residing African-American families. She hadn’t.

Ada let his mind tick over the possibilities, unable to contain the width of the smile straining her against her cheeks. She’d always enjoyed the shock of someone finding out that she’d been married to a member of one of the town’s founding families, Tolbert McCrae. “And the lights in the square, do they still have those?”

Happy hopping and wish me luck! The next stop is Elin Gregory.

Hump Day Hook – September 4, 2013

This week I’m sharing from The Beginning of Forever, a contemporary romance to be released on September 6, 2013 by Amira Press. Where does this scene begin? The hero discovers the truth behind his heroine’s infertility treatments.

TheBeginningofForeverThough it only seemed like a few seconds from the time her eyes closed on a room faintly lit with sunshine, her lids were opening again to a view of Kevin’s firm backside. Dim light from a lone streetlamp streamed through the opened blinds into their bedroom, highlighting the deep contours of his back as he slid a pair of boxers over his trim hips. Thoughts of their morning swirled around her in the wisps of steam curling from his body which scented the air with sandalwood and mint. Would her night end like her morning began?

No, because he was quiet. During arguments about working or anything else Kevin never raised his voice. He was just…quiet. “I want to talk about that treatment.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. The cycle is over and…”

“You weren’t honest with me. That wasn’t the preferred method.”

“It’s the most effective.” She shifted up to sitting position, forcing her eyes to meet his.

“I trusted you to tell me the truth. And you didn’t. So what I read was…debilitating side effects for a forty percent chance at impregnation. And we’re not gonna do that, Amber.”

“This is the best way. I wasn’t completely honest but I thought we wanted a baby.” Her voice pitched louder in sharp contrast to his.

“Don’t turn this into an argument about a hypothetical child.”

“Hypothetical?” She flipped the comforter off her legs and stood up to face him. “Kev…”

“Amber…you’re not gonna die for this.”

“It’s not killing me. I’m fine!” She shouted. “If you don’t want to push over a fucking wastebasket or bring me a glass of water then don’t.”

“Do you think your tirades are going to scare me? Cause you’re sadly mistaken, Sweetpea.”

She peered directly into his narrowed gaze, daring him to speak. To continue with his rant.

And he did.

Male Romance Authors: Do You Read Them?

There seems to be a new trend in romance these days. More male authors are writing romance openly. When I say openly, I mean they no longer feel the need for pen names. This isn’t anything new though. Men have been writing romance for years but they often use female pen names for the purpose of publication, and to win over the romance audience.

Just like women authors find prejudice when they write in certain genres, male authors find that as well in romance and erotica. Besides Nicholas Sparks, most people can’t name a male who writes love stories. There are many romance readers who are not open to books penned by males for whatever reason. You of course have some readers who don’t care about the gender, but many who do.

I’ve heard many different statements when romance readers proclaim why they don’t read romance by men. Many say that the feel of the romance isn’t the same when written by a man. Some say that during love scenes, male authors tend to focus more on the physical and not the emotional aspect. Some readers say they find it awkward and uncomfortable to even try a romance book written by a man.

I think it’s great that more men are writing romances just like I think it’s great that more women are writing in different genres. We still have a long way to go when it comes to readers seeing authors beyond their genders, but I think we’re moving in the right direction.

I still see more romance readers sticking with the female authors, but as males continue to find their voice in the genre, that might change.

Giveaway Question:

The Wild LifeWhat do you think of male romance authors? Have you ever read a romance written by a man (besides Nicholas Sparks)? If you’ve been resistant to male-written romance, what would persuade you to give a male romance author a try? Also, if you’ve read male romance novels and enjoyed them, feel free to give them a shout out!

Five people who provide the most interesting answers to these questions will each win an ebook copy of The Wild Life.

Giveaway ends at 8 pm Central Time. Ebook copies will be emailed to participants by Stacy-Deanne. Commenters must leave email address with comment to be eligible.
