Val’s Top Ten Posts of 2012

This is my highlight reel of the past year, thanks to a nifty sorting technique I was able to view my top ten posts of the year and it includes some of my favorite posts and favorite guests!:

9. Introducing The Dark Sentinels – Sable – Author Dariel Raye introduced The Dark Sentinels series and the rare breed of wolf shifters.

8. Sunday Snippet With Deneice Tarbox – Deneice stopped by the blog to talk about her two novels, Healing Inc. and Finding Love For A Cynic. I didn’t know it then but Finding Love For A Cynic would become one of my favorite reads this summer.

7. Passionate Cook Sharon Kleve Shares a Romantic Menu – Sharon shared a great menu for a special date night and a little about her book, Klutzy Love.

6. Sunday Morning Chat Hosted by Anne Ashby – Anne came over from New Zealand to interview her heroine, Jodie Mathieson, from Wilderness Liason and got a surprise. She had to chase the woman down and her questions weren’t ever answered. LOL! One of the funniest posts!

5. An Interview with Marla Malone by Jason Jaxx – A big thank you to Jason for stopping by the blog and convincing Marla to come along with him. His erotic works can be found in the Fantasies4U series starting with Ashley’s Craving.

4. interracial desire and passionate sex hand on assAfter Party A New Sensual Short – This post talks about a short story of mine available on Barnes and Noble and Smashwords. If you haven’t seen the cover, it’s a little much. But I figured the couple was married so in my mind it’s okay.

3. Today’s Hero Dalton Beck with Yvonne Harriot – The lovely Yvonne Harriot visited the blog and interviewed her hero, Dalton Beck, from Hide ‘N Seek and got a little more than she bargained for when she met the handsome man. I’m glad I’m not the only one who loses it when confronted with our own creations.

2. Today’s Hero Clark Pinot with Nevea Lane – Oh hotness, Clark Pinot from Falling Leaves in Autumn a violet eyed hero who doesn’t chase but pursues! Nevea did a wonderful job of interviewing this man and keeping her cool at the same time.

1. The Color of Inspiration – This is one of my favorite posts of the year. It continues to get hits and comments even though it was posted in May. This is a statistical analysis of interracial marriages in the US. Want to know how many African American women marry outside of their race? Only about 9%!

“Heavenly Pillows” Sopapillas

What’s more hot than a flaky dessert, dipped in honey and shared with the one you love? Yeah, it takes a bit of prep and build up, but so does the art of romance, does it not?

Sopapillas are a sentimental recipe for me. My grandfather brought the recipe over from Central Mexico when he moved to America. I used to love watching him sit in the kitchen and toss flirtatious comments to my grandma as she dropped the dough in the deep fryer. And then later, they’d cuddle against the counter and share one (or two) together.

Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons shortening

1 1/2 cups warm water

2 quarts oil for frying

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and shortening. Stir in water a little at a time until dough is smooth texture. Cover and let stand for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Roll out on floured surface until ⅛-inch thick. Cut into 4 to 5-inch squares or triangles. Set aside.
  3. Heat oil in deep fryer to 375 degrees F and fry until golden brown, flipping with tongs to ensure both sides are evenly tanned.
  4. Drain on paper towels, sprinkle powdered sugar to desired amount and serve hot. As an alternative to the powdered sugar, you can sprinkle cinnamon sugar. To do this, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon sugar, blend well and sprinkle to desired amount.
  5. Serve with honey for dipping and enjoy! Makes about 2 dozen.

Passionate Cook Anita Philmar – Smoking Hot Bourbon Beef

I’ve been playing around in the kitchen since I was a kid. My recipes don’t always come out the way I have planned, but I enjoy trying new recipes.

Smoking Hot Bourbon Beef

Ingredients

1 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoons brown Sugar

1 cup of your favorite steak sauce

1 cup bourbon whiskey

2 teaspoons prepared mustard

4 (10 ounce) steaks

Directions

1. Combine first 5 ingredients together (everything except

the steak) in a baking dish or large plastic storage bag

and mix well.

2. Add steak and cover or seal. Allow to marinate for at

least two hours or overnight.

3. Preheat grill to medium or high heat. Can also cook

under your broiler in the oven.

4. Grill steaks. Allow 5-7 minutes on each side depending

on the doneness you prefer. Turn over halfway through

grilling.

I like to save the marinate. Heat it up in a sauce pan until its thick and serve it over the steaks.

Add a bake potato and a salad.

Dinner is ready.

Passionate Cook Sharon Kleve Shares a Romantic Menu

Besides writing, cooking is my passion and I spend a lot of time in my kitchen. A few years ago we remodeled it and now I have a large kitchen that inspires me to do even more.

A couple weeks before our sixteenth year wedding anniversary this year instead of going out I created a romantic dinner for two. We drank a couple glasses of chardonnay and looked longing into each other eyes. My husband says that’s cheaper than an upgrade on a diamond ring. Ha ah!

I thought I share the rest of the dinner menu, minus the looking into each other eyes; you’re on your own with that one.

Lip Smacking Pork Roulade is a main dish in the Passionate Cooks cook book. Below are the two side dishes I served with it.

New Red Potatoes with Parsley

Ingredients

  • 1 (1-pound) new red potatoes
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°.
  2. Wash and cut the new potatoes into quarters and dry.
  3. Put the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and new potatoes in a bowl and toss.
  4. Add salt and pepper and toss again.
  5. Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spread the potatoes in a single layer.
  6. Chop the bunch of parsley and set aside
  7. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until tender.
  8. Put alongside the Pork on a pretty platter and top with the parsley.

Sautéed Garlic Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 1 (1-pound) fresh, washed and dried broccoli
  • 4 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon of butter
  • 4 large finely chopped cloves of garlic
  • 1 lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat the olive oil and butter in a large non-stick pan
  2. Add the garlic and slowly soften it, but don’t burn it.
  3. Add the broccoli and sauté until tender.
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cut the lime into quarters.

Put alongside the Pork on a pretty platter and top with lime juice.
